Bidets- the history, the meaning and the companies of today

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

The bidet is a French invention dating back all the way to the early 1700s.  There is no certain inventor or certain date of the first one or even notes as to what it may have looked like.  The French word bidet, actually means pony, and the coining of ‘bidet’ dervived from the way that one sat on the toilet tool as if it were a small horse and you were set to ride.

There are plenty of companies now that will claim their brands proudly on the small ponies that are a growing trend in Japan, United States and here in Australia.  We’ll be conducting interviews with representatives from those Australian companies that make bidets and those that are retailers for them.  We will be posting our findings here on bidets.com.au.
